Position: Senior Baseball Analyst

Department: Baseball operations
Reports to: Senior Director, Analytics
Status: Exempt

Primary objective: Responsible for supporting the baseball operations department through baseball related data science including statistical modeling, research, visualizations and other assigned projects.

Essential functions:

  • Perform statistical modeling and data analysis using a variety of data sources, both public and proprietary
  • Perform ad hoc queries and quantitative research to support all baseball operations personnel
  • Contribute to discussions on player acquisition, evaluation of professional and / or amateur players and strategic planning on the pitch
  • Perform other duties as needed

Education experience:

  • Baccalaureate required.
  • Three (3) years of work in a data analysis / predictive modeling environment, preferred.
  • Previous experience working with sports data or preferably in a sports setting.
  • Proficiency in programming with R or Python required.
  • Computer vision experience appreciated.

Position: Baseball Projects Intern

Department: Baseball projects
Reports to: Director, Baseball Projects
Status: Not exempt

Primary objective: Responsible for assisting in the analysis of baseball and larger baseball operations, organizing information and processes through player development, player acquisition and in-game strategy.

Essential functions:

  • Design cross-departmental tools, websites and reports to bring analytical insights to life.
  • Provide quantitative support to all aspects of player development including the next morning’s analysis, player goal setting and ad hoc studies.
  • Organize player pools and information to streamline professional and amateur player acquisition processes.
  • Systematize advanced screening processes in major and minor league affiliates.
  • Contribute to player acquisition decisions in formal and informal settings.

Education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, computer science, mathematics or any other STEM field related to data science preferred. Equivalent and relevant work will be considered instead of formal education on a case-by-case basis.

Skills, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA):

  • Proficiency in managing large datasets in R, SQL, Python and / or comparable languages.
  • Self-starter demonstrated as a team-oriented leader.
  • Working knowledge of baseball analysis, strategy and trends preferred.
  • Brilliant app or other web development experience is best.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Motivated, creative and innovative with a high degree of integrity and attention to detail.
  • Experience in building predictive models preferred

Position: Intern, Baseball Operations

Department: Baseball operations
Reports to: Director, Baseball Operations
Status: Not exempt

Primary objective: Responsible for coordinating, supporting and assisting the Baseball Operations Department in day-to-day research, administration and scouting operations.

Essential functions:

  • Provide support in all areas of pre-scouting including match day duties, pre-scout preparation and pre-set meetings.
  • Support all areas of the recruiting department including player evaluation, research, video capture and preparation for amateur draft meetings.
  • Provide additional statistical analysis, economic and financial research as assigned.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

Education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. Equivalent and relevant work or play experience may be considered in lieu of formal education if approved by management.
  • Fluency in basic Spanish is preferred.
  • Experience in evaluating players is preferred.
  • Training in video preparation is preferable.

  • Working knowledge of baseball statistical data and its application in relation to scouting information, baseball strategy and current trends in game management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
