Job Opportunity: MLB Field Strategy Manager, Economics Coordinator, Operations Fellow

Position: Manager, Field Strategy

Location: New York, NY

Major League Baseball is looking to hire a Manager, Field Strategy within the Baseball Operations Department. The position is full time and is based in New York.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide analytical and administrative support to field and competition committees
  • Analyze gameplay and strategy trends
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of experimental game rules and the impact of new technologies and other field initiatives
  • Collaborate with Commissariat departments to provide support for day-to-day operations and relevant projects
  • Other projects assigned by the Strategy department in the field

Desired skills:

  • Demonstrated interest in baseball and baseball-related analysis
  • Detail-oriented with a strong quantitative background, including experience working with large datasets and leading complex analyzes
  • Experience with SQL – or other relational database platforms – and statistical modeling software (R, STATA, Python, etc.)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to manage relationships in a fast-paced business environment

Position: Coordinator, Baseball Economics

Location: New York, NY

Major League Baseball is looking to hire a Coordinator, Baseball Economics within the Baseball Operations Department. The position is full time and is based in New York.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Comprehensive analysis of player contract valuation and other analysis related to baseball labor markets
  • Assist in the administration of Major League player payroll for Competitive Balance Tax (CBT) and Labor Relations Department (LRD) purposes
  • Provide analytical and administrative support to clubs during negotiations and hearings with players eligible for salary arbitration
  • Collaborate with internal staff in the Baseball Operations Department, as well as other departments in the Commissioner’s Office, to provide support for day-to-day operations and relevant projects
  • Serve as a liaison with the Commissioner’s Office baseball operations IT systems, ensure data accuracy in baseball applications and assist with department IT strategy
  • Other Projects Assigned by the Baseball Economics Department

Desired skills:

  • Demonstrated interest in baseball and baseball-related analysis

Position: Associate, Baseball Operations

Location: New York, NY

Major League Baseball is looking to hire a Baseball Operations Department Fellow from any discipline or background, as long as the individual has the curiosity, open-mindedness, and perseverance to take on new challenges. This position is open to people of color, applicants, and those who identify as non-binary. The position is full time and is based in New York.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide support for minor league player transactions and contract administration and serve as a point of contact for the club’s player development staff on these matters
  • Assist in coordinating the MLB affiliated minor league system and partner leagues, including related on and off-field initiatives
  • Provide support with central office administrative duties for Major League player transactions, waivers, and roster management, including assisting club baseball operations personnel with interpreting Major League rules, Major League Regulations and Basic Agreement
  • Review and approve major and minor league transactions leading to playing time throughout the season and issue waivers during the season
  • Keep abreast of minor league player development and operational trends occurring across the league with a focus on improving and enhancing the broader player development system
  • Work with the MLB Baseball Computer Systems Group and external software consultants to ensure and improve data accuracy and system functionality in relevant baseball applications
  • Other Projects Assigned by the Baseball Operations Department

Desired skills:

  • Demonstrated interest in baseball and baseball-related analysis
  • Knowledge of major league transactions, major league rules, basic agreement and major league club operations regarding minor leagues is a plus
  • Strong administrative, organizational and communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to manage relationships in a fast-paced business environment
  • Must have highly proficient skills in using the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Power Point)
