Prevention link has a vacant position for a Communications and Outreach Specialist (leave) to lead Link Prevention’s communication and awareness efforts. The Communications and Outreach Specialist (Leave) is a limited-term contract until March 31, 2022. Pending funding approval, this contract may be extended. The Communications and Outreach Specialist (Leave) is covered by the terms and conditions outlined in the collective agreement with COPE 343. This position is based out of the OTF offices in North York, Ontario, and works remotely as required. .

Job summary

As a member of the Prevention Link team, the Communications and Outreach Specialist will report to the leadership of the Ontario Federation of Labor through the Prevention Link Director and CEO. The main responsibility is to coordinate the communication and awareness efforts of Lien prevention.

The qualified candidate will have:

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in communication, particularly in a leadership role;
  • Excellent writing and editing skills;
  • Excellent social media skills using a variety of platforms;
  • Experience in developing internal and external communication strategies;
  • A general understanding of the principles of effective return-to-work and disability prevention strategies;
  • Working knowledge of occupational health and safety prevention strategies and the province of Ontario workers compensation system;
  • The ability to be autonomous and to work independently;
  • Familiarity with Action Network or similar contact resource management platforms as a communication and engagement tool;
  • Familiarity, including administrative experience with learning management software, such as Canvas;
  • In-depth knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign);
  • Experience in managing competing priorities;
  • A driver’s license and a car; and
  • Previous experience working in a union or non-profit environment.

* French language skills will be considered an asset, as will graphic design skills.

The successful candidate will oversee a variety of areas related to Prevention Link’s communication efforts, including:

Relations with members:

  • Coordinate and execute the Prevention Link member engagement strategy;
  • Writing / assisting in the production of grant applications, project reports, program documentation and resources; and
  • Writing, editing and coordination of the design and production of all internal and external communication media (e-blasts, flyers, newsletters, posters).

Sensitization of vulnerable workers:

  • Work with Prevention Link’s community partners to ensure access to our target audience that will lead to program deliverables;
  • Work with affiliates and community partners to lead and deliver the vulnerable worker outreach program, Prevention Link’s Flagship Initiative.

Public relations:

  • Coordinate all online, print and broadcast requests and distribution;
  • Maintain Prevention Link’s brand identity (logos, fonts, style guide); and
  • Manage program evaluation surveys and focus group testing for internal and external use, as required.

Online and social networks:

  • Coordinate the development, design and maintenance of the Prevention Link website and application, project collaboration sites and online properties;
  • Develop and execute online and social media strategies;
  • Manage the organization’s social media accounts; and
  • Provide social media training to agents and staff.

Photography, video and design work:

  • Document and maintain Prevention Link photo and video recordings for archival purposes;
  • Coordinate photography, photo editing and photo sharing;
  • Coordinate videography, video editing and video sharing;
  • Coordinate commissioned illustration and graphic design work;
  • Manage all external communications providers; and
  • Other assigned tasks.
