She is also an author, podcast host, blogger and has started a website called Rebecca Hamilton CO. which she uses to help entrepreneurs start and build successful businesses.

How did you get to where you are now?

“I struggled a lot when I was younger and then during my teenage years,” Hamilton told Narcity of his childhood in Cambridge, Ont. “My house that I grew up in was really chaotic. So I ended up dropping out of high school when I was 16.

“I didn’t go to business school, I didn’t go to bakery school. I’m completely self-taught. I learned a lot of my skills from watching YouTube videos and watching Cake Boss on TLC, which was my favorite show already. “

She added that cake decorating had become a creative outlet, so she started doing it with her husband.

“We just started out as a passion project, as a hobby, I didn’t take it seriously at all,” she said.

“I didn’t have anyone else to look at who had a really successful local business, especially in the baking industry, because you don’t really think that’s a huge or lucrative career choice.”

She added, “I am very, very passionate about sharing my story of how I literally came from nothing. I just started this business which has become very successful. Because I know there is has a lot of people who feel the way I felt – I felt worthless, I didn’t feel smart enough. “

“Even when I was growing my business, when I was writing the book, when I started my podcast, I had no idea at any time what I was doing. I just did what I thought was the best. decision to go ahead. “

How much money are you making?

“Last year our bakery had sales of $ 1.3 million,” Hamilton told Narcity. “For me, reaching over a million sales for a bakery is just mind blowing in itself, not to mention the fact that I didn’t know what I was doing at any point in time.”

Today Hamilton and her husband work full time in the bakery and live in Tillsonburg, Ontario.

“We both make a very good living doing this together. We both have triple-figure incomes from our million-dollar bakery,” she said of their six-figure salaries. “So that’s a huge accomplishment for me because I just can’t believe I’m the person responsible for starting it all and growing it to a point where I can have a triple-digit income.

“It’s just something I’m really proud of, especially because of where I’m from.”

How much money can people expect to make in your industry?

Hamilton said that no matter what industry you find yourself in – you have the potential to be as successful as you want and to make as much money as you want.

“It depends on your goals, if your goals are to make a lot of money and take your business to the top and you’re willing to do whatever it takes, then your earning potential is limitless.”

She added that you have to constantly grow and evolve and add new things to the mix.

“I have my bakery, but I also have my podcast, I also have my blog, I write books – I do all these other things that are like spinoffs from my main bakery business,” he said. she declared. .

“I firmly believe that if this is your goal, to earn a triple digit income, become a million dollar business, you absolutely can do it if you put in the effort and do whatever it takes. And you need to. realizing that business is not easy and that it is hard work. Especially at the beginning. So you just need to define your goals. “

What are the best and the worst parts of the job?

“The best part of the job for me is connecting with people, and I help other entrepreneurs realize their potential. This is why I like to share my story because other people find it. inspiring and useful to know all the struggles that I have encountered, gone through, and I have been able to draw success from it, ”Hamilton told Narcity.

She added that she also loved how her baking business “can create lasting memories” for special occasions, such as weddings.

“It’s honestly just an honor to be a part of such a special occasion in someone’s life,” she said. “We have a lot of customers who got their birthday cake from us. And then they got their wedding cake from us. And then they have a baby, they have a baby shower cake from us. is just a part of all of these milestones. ”

“So I think that’s honestly the most special part for me, it’s just seeing all these customers that have stayed with us through all the hard times, all the COVID challenges and everything, and to seeing their families grow up with us and being able to bring them joy and happiness in these moments is my favorite part. “

On the flip side, Hamilton said that even though she felt she was “living her goal,” she would hate doing bookkeeping and accounting.

“That’s why it’s really important to delegate those things that are the worst parts of the business to other people who don’t think it’s the worst part of the business because that’s what it is. their strengths. You provide employment opportunities for people who enjoy counting numbers. “

How has social media played a role in your success?

“We actually create the products for social media to be shared by people so that people take selfies with our products and post them,” Hamilton said. “That’s where our customers are, in this demographic of wanting to take a photo with something super epic and super cool. And that’s kind of how it snowballs too because other people people will be like ‘oh, where did you get that milkshake from?’ or ‘where did you get that cake from?’ and everyone wants to feel special and included. “

She added that this was especially important during COVID. “Our social media during COVID has increased dramatically because guess what, that’s all people have been able to do. So I’m very passionate about this and I really encourage other companies to focus and invest their time. social media marketing budget. And you can also see the return you get on the dollar you spend. “

What message do you want to leave people?

“My book is called The Million Dollar Bakery, but as pretty and cute as that title might sound, my book is actually all the tough things I’ve been through and all the lessons I’ve learned there. is my main message that I want to get across is for people who want to try their hobby, make it a business, live better, more intentional lives, so I share a lot of my tips that have worked for me. “

“I have heard a lot of stories [about] other people being able to relate to my story, as awkward and vulnerable as it was for me to write this, just knowing that it has helped and impacted other people is all I have always wanted in life. “
