Job posting

Here’s a look at Amazon’s first job posting

Hyderabad: US tech giant Amazon was started by Jeff Bezos in his home garage in 1994 as an online marketplace to sell books. It was originally incorporated as Cadabra, Inc. While all of this information may not be new to you, here is what the company’s first job posting looked like.

On August 22, 1994 – just a month after its incorporation – Jeff Bezos posted a job offer with his company. The position was looking for a Unix Developer and looking for someone with a BS, MS or PhD in Computer Science or equivalent training. The ad also mentioned that the candidate must have experience designing and building large and complex (but maintainable) systems. The candidate must be an “extremely talented” C / C ++ / Unix developer to help launch Internet commerce.

However, what caught people’s attention was a statement in the post that mentions that the person should be able to design in about “a third of the time that the most skilled people think possible.” High level communication skills are also essential.

Compensation would include a significant equity stake – which also makes people wonder who actually got the job and how much it would be worth in today’s times.
