Home jobs

10 companies are now hiring for work-from-home jobs

Working from home used to be risky and low paid.

But now, more and more big companies are hiring workers for well-paying jobs, which you can do from home, in your bathrobe and slippers.

Work balance, new baby

Lelia Wendel was a kindergarten teacher until the arrival of her little boy Austin. She soon realized that she couldn’t bear to be away from him all day.

Now, however, she no longer has to leave her house.

“I work between 1 and 3 hours a day to do my job, and I do it intentionally, because I’m a stay-at-home mom and I want to focus on it.”

Wendel joined the millions of Americans working from home, as a coach and salesperson for the “21 day fix“weight loss program.

She says she earns close to $1,000 a month while Austin gambles or naps.

“I never imagined that I could earn the income I earn working from home,” she said. “There are so many amazing opportunities.”

Win up to $100,000 from home

Andy Powers is a father of older children who works full time from home and earns nearly six figures.

“I like to tell my friends that I have the shortest commute in town,” Powers said, “about 15 feet every morning.”

He gave up the morning traffic jams when his software company let him move his sales job from a cubicle to his dining room table.

“I really like the peace and solitude, and the ability to focus with the lack of distractions of an office,” he said.

High speed internet makes it possible

Thanks to technological advances in smartphones, Skype and high-speed internet, more and more companies are saying “why do we need people to come here to the office, when they could do everything from home? ”

Angie Grilliot is with United Health Care, an insurance company that just made Forbes Magazine Top 10 List of the best work from home employers for 2016.

“We can use things like instant messaging, WebX technology and conference calls where you can see people if you need to.”

Grilliot says UHC has moved 25% of its workforce to home-based workers because there’s less overhead and it turns out they’re doing better work from home.

“They love it,” she says. “We’re seeing higher engagement scores from our employees who work from home, generally if you compare that with office workers.”

And they’re still hiring, with work-from-home customer service positions ranging from $25,000 to $75,000 a year, according to Salary.com.

“Right now, we have over a thousand job postings that offer telecommuting opportunities,” Grilliot said.

Other work from home businesses

Other companies, although not on the latest list, also offer work-from-home opportunities:

Some are Multi-level marketing works. These are legitimate businesses, but they require you to invite friends to join the business and work alongside you or “underneath”. You may need to host parties at your house.

Wendel says despite the pay cut, it was worth it…knowing she’ll be able to see her baby’s first steps.

“If he’s having a rough day, I can snuggle him up while he takes his nap and give him that time. It’s been a blessing!”
